The tradition of Wassailing is an Olde English tradition around which a number of traditions have grown.
The English tradition of singing and drinking to the health of the trees in the winter so that they might thrive in the coming year seemed to fit perfectly with a Celtic Witch perspective of honouring and working with the energies of the trees, and with all Wassailing traditions singing and drinking a spiced cider is part of the experience.
"Wassaile the trees, that they may beare,
You many a plum, and many a peare
For more or lesse fruits they will bring,
As you do give them wassailing." = Old English Rhyme
One legend about how wassailing was created states that a beautiful Saxon maiden named Rowena presented Prince Vortigan with a bowl of wine, while toasting the words "Waes hael" (good health.) Over the centuries many traditions have sprung up around the tradition of Wassailing but most include a traditional spiced apple wine or cider, on which the anointing oil is based.
This beautiful anointing oil is based around a traditional Wassailing recipe and embodies the energies of honouring the harvest and celebrating the trees, as well as the merriment of the season, the joy and magick of the season.
